Accredited Training

Recruitment and professional staff development is critical for the long-term stability of the Refinish Industry. Recruitment into our Industry has been a long-term problem and one that appears to be worsening, especially as staff turnover - currently running at around 20% - continues to rise. Linked with this is the lack of margins necessary to make viable the funding of training, which with the rapid developments in vehicle design, build materials and construction technology, as well as repair equipment and techniques, is becoming crucial to the industry’s ability to correctly carry out the professional repair.

The right training is considered essential to the integration process and to the future. Discipline, high skills levels and knowledge are required to allow the repairer to succeed in this professional marketplace. High working practices and standards are imperative from the outset.

To assist in all areas, UPD, along with major Industry Manufacturers, Paint Companies and Consultants, have devised a series of focussed training programmes which, in many cases, may be bespoke to the individual client’s requirements.

The objective of a Training Development Programme is to set realistic business targets and to improve and maintain Bodyshop Operatives’ performance. Professional development in all segments of the business is therefore of equal importance, regardless of position and status.

Accredited Training

Whilst training is imperative for long term business survival, non-accredited training can bring disadvantages as it is often based on own standards, is not recognised by the Industry or regulated by an Industry body. Grading may also be based on personal opinion rather than strict guidelines.

UPD have developed a training programme that has been accredited by the Institute of the Motor Industry. This programme is an ideal incentive for career development by promoting a feeling of value and worth and encouraging new blood into the Industry. On site training eliminates unnecessary costs and down time and utilises a simple ’12-Step’ process to accreditation.
